This vehicle is great for long road trips and weekend off road campouts. Because the camper is a toyhauler, it's also good vehicle to support motorcycle trips. It's built on a stock 4x4 Mitsubishi FG--a practical platform to build a rugged 4x4 RV.
The idea came from watching the Dakar Rally. They have a class of race trucks they run across thousands of miles of harsh terrain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakar_Rally#Truck_class.E2.80.94T4_and_T5
This truck isn't for races - unless it's against VW buses - but it's burly, reliable and should last a long long time with reasonable upkeep.
1998 Mitsubishi Fuso FG 4x4 with 45,000 miles - just now broken-in.
The FG has a beefy overbuilt axles and a low creeper gear. Combined with 4WD low and a rear limited slip differential, traction is not a problem.
